A significant number of pre-1917 modernist artists did stay put in Bolshevik Russia and forge new careers, some receiving Soviet honours, among them Malevich, Tatlin, Filonov and Konchalovsky.\n Spirits rise as a number of Cézannes collected by Morozov come into view, my favourites being Girl at the Piano (c.i86g) and his tender view of loneliness and advancing years Woman in Blue (1900-1902.)
