Summary
All democratic socialists in (or perhaps now out of) the Labour Party ought to applaud Roy Hattersley (Essay, 10 May). He rightly rebukes those of us who have tended to cling to the "old Labour" mantra when, in truth, we mean "real Labour". But I believe he is mistaken in dismissing the 1945-51 Attlee government programme of public ownership and regulation as "no longer worth discussing".
